Challenge
Utopia Washington needed support in building out its organizational infrastructure. Founded in 2009, Utopia had solid footing as an organization, but they required more robust software to manage their various project needs. They reached out to Launch Industries to help them in that process. Over the course of the project, it became clear that Utopia staff required training and a variety of tools to help them manage their workflow and keep their records accurate and up-to-date.
Our Approach
Recognizing Utopia’s need for more robust software, Launch conducted a multi-step consulting process to meet their needs.
Step One: Software Needs Assessment
Initially, Launch conducted a needs assessment to understand where new software might improve inefficiencies in Utopia’s processes. We identified three areas of need: intranet/communications, payroll processing, and finance management.
Step Two: Software Identification & Training
Once we understood Utopia’s needs, we were able to quickly identify software that would help them streamline their work. We recommended comprehensive training in the following platforms:- Notion to centralize organizational information- Gusto to more seamlessly process payroll- Quickbooks to better manage financial data
Step Three: Employee and Independent Contractor Classification
As Launch grew to understand more about Utopia’s business, we also saw a need to help them more easily differentiate employees from independent contractors. To address this, we developed a simple tool they now use to make the distinction.
Outcomes
As a result of this partnership, Utopia Washington developed new skills and insights about the tools they use and can leverage to make their work as efficient as possible. Since Launch also trained leaders in some of these tools, we saw leadership’s confidence in managing various processes and projects increase. Ultimately, Utopia was able to reduce silos within the organization and work cross functionally, recognizing that each individual is part of a greater whole.
