Challenge

Batch Baking Company opened just before the pandemic, and as they emerged from it, the owners faced time constraints and the need to hire additional help. They sought support in opening accounts with the appropriate employment-related regulatory agencies and ensuring they thoroughly understood the City of Seattle’s rules published by the Office of Labor Standards. Additionally, they needed assistance in selecting a payroll system, learning how to process payroll, writing a compliant employee handbook, and creating a list of onboarding tasks to ensure a smooth experience for new hires.

Our Approach

Our approach involved a collaborative and tailored strategy to address Batch Baking Company’s specific needs through a series of Zoom 1:1 training sessions.  

Payroll Setup: We assisted co-owner Jared in selecting a suitable payroll provider and plan, guiding him through the initial setup process and ensuring accurate configuration of pay schedules and tax withholdings.

Employee Handbook Development: We worked closely with Jared to create a concise employee handbook that outlined essential policies, procedures, and expectations for his employees. This included sections on equal opportunity employment, harassment, pay policies, rest periods, meal breaks, sick time, and dress code.

Onboarding Procedures: We helped Jared establish a structured onboarding process to welcome new employees and ensure they had the necessary information and resources to succeed in their roles.
